When importing photos from a digital camera or other external sources, most of us tend to dump the files into a folder, without thinking of sorting them, because it takes too much time. If you don't want to mix sceneries with wedding photos, but you also lack the patience to organize the pictures in different folders, then you should definitely look at this lightweight utility. Its purpose is to copy pictures from one place to another, according to a series of precise parameters, which you can define without any effort.

Smart Photo Import is free to try for 60 days, without any serious limitations. It is compatible with many Windows versions, from the obsolete Windows 98 to the recently released Windows 8. The hardware requirements are modest and there is no need to install any additional tools. Installing the software does not involve any complex settings and it takes only a few seconds to complete the operation.

Copying and sorting images with Smart Photo Import is quite easy. All you have to do is select a source and a destination and choose how to sort the pictures. The best part is that everything can be done on the same user interface, so you don't have to bring up additional menus, on separate windows. The interface and its options should not be a challenge for any users, regardless of their experience. It consists of several panels, on which you can set the input and output paths, choose a set of sorting criteria, rename the pictures, filter them and perform other actions.

Smart Photo Import supports various sources, like removable memory devices, digital cameras, as well as folders from your local partitions. Once you select a source, the contained pictures will appear as thumbnails on one of the aforementioned panels, where you can filter and sort them by name, date or other characteristics. Another useful feature is the possibility of excluding and including specific file types, if you wish to see nothing but videos, RAW or non-RAW pictures, files with custom formats and so on. Also, you can manually choose which files should be copied or not, just by clicking their check boxes.

The software can be set to copy the targeted pictures to one folder, with a specific name or to organize them in a structure of folders and sub-folders, based on their creation dates. It is also possible to rename the files, using their dates and custom information, like author or serial number. What's more, Smart Photo Import allows you to preview the output folders structure and the renamed files, so you can avoid making any mistakes. When everything is in order, you only need to click a button, located in the lower right corner of the interface, to start copying your files. Alternatively, you can set the program to move the files.
